1. Woman cures her lactose intolerance by chugging lactose (powdered milk)
HGModernism found a study suggesting that lactose intolerance may be an adaptation issue. That is, the study found that paradoxically, giving people with lactose intolerance lactose daily reduced their symptoms. She chugged powdered milk daily and cured her lactose intolerance.
2. People across all sorts of cultures regret not taking shots more than failures
A study in the Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology found that people in United States, China, Japan and Russia all regretted the things they failed to do rather than the things they did.
Adam Grant summed it up nicely:
True failure is not falling short of our goals. It's failing to pursue our most meaningful goals. In the moment, it feels risky to take a chance. In hindsight, our biggest mistakes are the chances we didn't take. Inaction is a recipe for regret. Action is fuel for growth.
3. The negative health effects of seed oils continue to spread (to your colon)
An article in Daily Mail explains that:
Consuming large amounts of seed oils – which include sunflower, canola, corn and grapeseed – has long been linked to inflammation in the body.
But now a study analyzing the tumors of more than 80 patients with colon cancer has found they may also raise the risk of one of the fastest-growing forms of the disease.
Researchers found patients' tumors had high levels of bioactive lipids, microscopic fatty compounds produced when the body breaks down seed oils.
These lipids are believed to be dangerous in two ways - they promote inflammation which helps cancers grow and they prevent the body from fighting the tumors.
A more thorough article on the study is available from The University of South Florida, titled: How ultra-processed foods may drive colorectal cancer risk
With cutting-edge technology, this study reveals how ultra-processed foods and inflammatory seed oils used in packaged food products may contribute to chronic inflammation.
P.S. I’ve reduced the newsletter from five points to three. Five was starting to feel a bit bloated.
It seems almost ironic that there are reports that seed oils are increasing risk in colon cancer when the carnivores and proponents of red meat consumption were vilified for the same reason.
I swear you can find a study these days that says everything "increases" and "decreases" cancer/cardiovascular disease risk. Smh
Oh, interesting, that might explain why I don't have lactose intolerance - I was drinking a lot of raw milk until 18. 200ml in the morning, 500ml in the evening.
